Section 1: Our Mission and Values
At the Miami-Dade Green Party, we are committed to promoting a sustainable and just society by advocating for environmental protection, social justice, and grassroots democracy. Our values are rooted in the principles of ecology, nonviolence, grassroots organizing, and respect for diversity. We believe that a healthy and sustainable environment is the foundation of a thriving community, and that our political systems must reflect this reality.
As a local chapter of the Green Party of the United States, we work to build a political alternative that champions the needs of the people over the interests of corporations and the wealthy elite. Our goal is to create a world in which all people can live with dignity, freedom, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Section 2: Our Achievements
Since our founding in 1996, the Miami-Dade Green Party has been at the forefront of environmental advocacy in South Florida. We have successfully fought against the construction of unnecessary highways that threaten our natural habitats and air quality, and have pushed for the expansion of public transportation options that reduce carbon emissions and improve access to jobs and services.
We have also been instrumental in the passage of local and state policies that promote renewable energy and energy efficiency, such as the Miami-Dade County Clean Energy Resolution and the Florida Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program. These initiatives have not only helped to reduce our community’s carbon footprint, but have also created green jobs and stimulated economic growth.
Section 3: Getting Involved
The Miami-Dade Green Party is an all-volunteer organization, and we welcome anyone who shares our values and mission to join us in the fight for a better world. Whether you are interested in campaigning for a particular issue or candidate, organizing community events, or simply learning more about our platform, there are many ways to get involved.
Some of our ongoing initiatives include:
- Climate Justice Committee: Working to address the disproportionate impacts of climate change on marginalized communities, and advocating for policies that prioritize the needs of frontline communities.
- EcoAction Committee: Promoting environmental education and stewardship through community events and outreach programs.
- Electoral Committee: Supporting Green candidates at the local, state, and national levels by organizing voter outreach, fundraising, and campaign events.
